one split second --- life and death

10:50pm, after yoga class in the upper west side, 72nd/Amsterdam Ave, i walked out, waited for the 57th st bus to come.  bus came right away and the only passenger got off the bus and the bus driver decided not to let me on the bus, so i walked over to broadway and hoped to catch the 104 bus downtown.  as i crossed the street on amerstdam ave, i saw a woman crossing the street towards the 72nd subway station, a car went zoooom!  right in her way and BAM! her life was in danger...
the car was going at about 30 miles per hour...maybe less (?) and it her on the legs and she flipped around and fell on the ground...
i could not let myself to stay there or even listen to her scream and moan...and i tried to walk calmly down to the subway station although my heart was racing...

life and death is within a split second...

the sound of the car hitting her and her falling and moaning/screaming keeps playing back in my head...gah.  reminds me of freshman year, in the library...when....

in the subway, the cleaning man grabs the big bag of trash and does his job, the people down there waiting keeps on listening to their ipods, chatting, staring off into space...    doesn't anyone know what's happening to the lady on the streeet??  i guess not...the world keeps rolling even when someone's life is about to stop...and i hope has not stopped...amitofou

    may she be well...

thanks for listening...it feels much better to tell it to someone...

Impermanence can be very painful when truly felt by heart, but it also could be a good learning experience.  It takes courage to embrace it, but for now, see if we can just look at it with a gentle smile.  Sometimes, when we are closer to death, we can be also closer to life.  I had a similar experience when I was a teen (my mama's accident), it is painful when I look back.  But I am learning to come to terms with it, and use it as strength to appreciate how precious the present moment can be.  Big hug and lots of "xio xio" to Eueu.  - LJJ

yes, life is fragile. every time i really think about it, i feel startled and wistful. yet for some strange reason, maybe as part of human beings' natural defense mechanism, i alway forget this fact and oh-so-readily fall back into routines of obscurity.

so, dear, may you fold this shocking incident into something positive... LIVE and be well. and the same to all.

Life can be taken away so easily...just a split second

    Makes me wonder now...
What can we do to make our lives more fruitful..so that when we die, we won't have too many regrets...
